By this time most of us have probably heard about the upcoming Mounjaro price hike. For me, and I imagine many many others, this is a really stressful time. Some of us will not be able to continue our treatment normally, if at all, myself included! I've put this page together to give you some information, and will update it over the next few days. Please comment if you have any other information that you think might help.

The Key Basic Facts: What's Actually Happening

In a word, politics. This has resulted in Eli Lilly DOUBLING the price of Mounjaro, from the 1st September 2025. They state that they are bring prices 'into line' with other markets, but I think we all know they just pick arbitrary prices for their products anyway. Currently, we are at their mercy and there's nothing we can do directly to change that. Oh yeah, there's a second word I almost forgot to mention - Trump. I'm not going into politics on this blog though, so I enough said on that matter me thinks!

Key average price changes from September 1st:

Mounjaro 5mg dose: £92 → £180 (nearly double)
Mounjaro 15mg dose: £122 → £330 (170% increase)

How Different Providers Are Responding

Numan's Response (My Current Provider)

"We know many of you are concerned about the recent announcement from Eli Lilly about Mounjaro prices increasing from 1 September 2025. We haven't changed our prices yet, but we'll keep you updated and give you plenty of notice if we do."

My thoughts on this? I'm not entirely sure yet, though it doesn't seem as committed a statement as other providers who have already said they are freezing prices for now. I'm definitely considering a different provider, amongst the few options I have remaining to me. I really do hope they stick to their guns and keep the prices down, though I can't see this going on indefinitely.
Current Numan pricing (for reference):

Some Other Provider Responses

Pharmacy2U: Freezing prices temporarily
Other providers: Some may be passing increases on immediately
NHS patients: Protected from increases due to negotiated rates

What This Means for Patients Like Us

Again, I'm not entirely sure yet. What I do know is that its made me feel anxious about being able to complete my treatment for it all to have not been a waste of money. As well as considering moving providers again - as many of us are - I'm also considering different doing like 1 week on, 1 off, or 1 month on, one off, but I won't be making any decisions like that without some guidance from Numan, or whoever my provider is, first. I'm very interested to know what thoughts any of you might have, and what does this means for YOU? These are some things I think many of us may need to consider:

The financial impact on your household
Difficult decisions ahead like the ones described above
The stress of potentially stopping treatment
How this affects the weight loss community
The surge in people switching to Ozempic (500-600% increase in sales) and should I switch

My (our) Options & Things to Consider

Switching to Wegovy/Ozempic as alternative (now roughly half the price of Mounjaro)
Looking for cheaper providers
Considering breaks in treatment
Speaking to GP about NHS options, though as I'm no longer 'overweight' I'm unlikely to convince them to help me finish my treatment
Warning about counterfeit medications online, don't get tempted by deals too good to be true!

The Bigger Picture

The UK has always made a stance where medications are concerned, especially price-wise. Let's face it this whole thing is because of politics, which I won't get into on this blog, though its inescapable. Just thinking about the impact on myself make me realise how awful this will be for some people. I'd feel especially cheated if I'd just started treatment.

One thing I do know is that there is a really supportive community out there (I'm often on the UK reddit community), and I think working together, we can help make sure as few of us as possible have to stop treatment. I still recommend Monj.co.uk

Why UK was priced lower initially
The politics of Trump's pharmaceutical pressure
Impact on the growing community of users
Long-term sustainability concerns
Potential impact on NHS and pharmacy sector

What I'm Doing Next

Well, as of today (18th August) I haven't made any concrete decisions. What I'm doing now is using tools like Monj to try and check the most popular and money saving deals that I can. What I do know is that somehow I will find a way to finish this treatment giving me the best chances in the future. I will of course keep you posted on my journey, but I'd love to know what you think about all of this, and what you're thinking your next move might be!
